As deputy commissioner general of the United States to the Brussels World’s Fair, JAMES S. PLAUT devoted eighteen months to the inception and development of the American exhibition and in that service came to appreciate the inner meaning of the Fair and its influence on those who attended. A Harvard graduate, class of 1933, Mr. Plant was the director of the Institute of Contemporary Art of Boston from 1938 to 1956.
An art and director who received his training at the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard, JAMES S. PLAUT resumed his duties as Director of the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, after four years’ service in the Navy. As Director of the Art Looting Investigation Unit, OSS, he was responsible for uncovering the works of art collected by Rosenberg, Göring, and Hitler and hidden in Germany.
From November 1944, to April 1946, the author was Director of the Art Looting Investigation Unit, OSS, where he was directly responsible for recovering the works of art that had been looted by Rosenberg, Goring, and Hitler and hidden in Germany.
